Web app prototyping

When presenting designs to clients early on in a project, I've always found that producing a low-fi web application has been super effective. The sooner clients can get something in their hands to use and play with the better. Many of the prototyping tools out there work well but there is usually a learning curve associated with them. I often think that it would be as quick with HTML, CSS and little JS.

This approach may not be appropriate for all projects. It can take some trial and error to get the process working. If you can get your web app established outside of the constraints of a real project first it will be a smoother introduction. You don't want to eat up project margins by taking a week to produce something. However you get it done, give it go. Your clients will love it!
